Microblogging sounds super-techy and somewhat complicated. Something you'd see from a suit sitting at a Starbucks in the business district of the big city. Turns out, it's as simple as posting to Facebook or Twitter! Hmmmm... so simple even I could go to our Starbucks and microblog from small town Wyoming!
How do I microblog you might ask? (And who knows why anyone would ask that?) I use it specifically for educational and athletic purposes. There are so many great ideas out there for improving the way we do things in education. Finding those ideas can be difficult if you try to surf the web and sort out all of the information. Using a source such as Twitter to pull specific feeds dealing with educational best practices or specific articles can be a great tool right at your finger tips. The thought of having access to a group of PE teachers all over the world in which to exchange info and ideas is super exciting!
In athletics, you can gain access to the thoughts and ideas of coaches across the country. For someone like me who can't always get to the big coaching clinics based on my location, I can access articles and videos of concepts and ideas people are presenting all over the world.
On a local level, I can access scores of the other teams in our league to find out how everyone did on a Friday night. I am also able to update parents, fans and even news outlets of how our team did.
So while it may sound rather high tech, microblogging is really all about putting your info out there 140 characters at a time. That's my status and update!
Make it a great day!
