Just watched a good video from Marcus Buckingham on focusing on your strengths (see link below). It is a good reminder to really just be who we are. We all bring good things to the table - characteristics, qualities - the things that make our school, our team, our family successful. Buckingham discusses the myth in thinking that "we think we need to change as we grow"; when in reality we just need to be who we are. We all have weaknesses and that's an OK thing. You have to play to your strengths and surround yourself with people whose strengths are your weaknesses. That's part of building a great team.
I love teaching. Whether I'm in the gym or on the football field, there is just that inner peace and excitement of working with a group of kids, teaching them new skills and concepts, and building new relationships while playing and having fun. That is when I feel I am most in my 'sweet spot' as some might say.
I am not really a fan of sitting in staff meetings or mandatory trainings. I know these things are valuable and play a role in the success of the groups I am working with, but I am not the most comfortable when it comes to those policies and pieces that are principal-type things! I would much rather be teaching and coaching and let the people whose strengths are policy development and school management run the big show! Check out the video if you'd like! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GGB_d8FZig&feature=youtu.be
Be who you are and play to your strengths!
Make it a great day!
